Factory errand

Today involved a quick (2 hour) dash to the factory in Edmonton from Knightsbridge, as the seamstress has a made-to-measure alteration to be completed for tomorrow. I went to the factory to source 60cm of a sky blue fabric to complete the sleeves on this dress. Whilst I was there, we decided it was a good opportunity to collect 1m of the turquoise raw silk pictured ready for another alteration.
Due to the distressing crime in Edmonton recently, I was not expecting to go back again, never mind alone. However, I am glad I did, it was one of the first days the factory had opened after the month break. It was amazing, around 15 members of staff, all sewing, pressing and cutting out fabric. Working on certain parts of the garments at a time, then passing them down along the production line. It is not like a sweat shop which people expect, the staff were laughing, happy and enjoying their jobs. Really eye opening, and looks like a fantastic sector to work in.
