FIT
Today we went over to the pattern cutters again for the first toil fitting with a FIT model. I had no idea what that actually stood for, upon asking I found out it means a model who is paid to try on toils, they aren't models who will be wearing final garments for photoshoots or runway shows for example.
Overall the model tried on 3 jackets and 3 pairs of trousers. This experience was fantastic, to watch and also give advice on ways the toils can be altered. It has opened my eyes into the importance of toil fittings in the future.
The way the company came to make the patterns for the toils were though Lalage's designs and spec sheets. However, to create the similar shape and fit desired she supplied them with a previous pair of trousers. I was expecting them to take these apart to create the pattern, again a new learning experience, I was shown and explained how they did it, they have a tracing wheel and a way to lay the garment out to recreate the shape. Then drawing the pattern over those traced lines perfectly with seam allowance and pocket positions. Then taking the original garment and checking the measurements are exact. For that they when altered the paper patterns to the desired silhouette's and shapes from the spec sheets.
I am looking forward to attending the next one in a weeks time.
